Hosting Dr. Nibal Kabbara and Dr. Els Moris from Thomas More University (Belgium) as Part of the Cultural Exchange with the University of Jordan

The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics, headed by Dr. Bashar Al-Qaroot, hosted Dr. Els Moris and Dr. Nibal Kabbara as part of the cultural exchange program between the University of Jordan and Thomas More University in Belgium, one of the country’s most established academic institutions. During the visit, the delegation delivered a series of lectures and conducted workshops for students across different academic levels. The lectures covered several topics, including seating orthoses, clinical communication skills, lymphoma orthotic treatment, and insoles.

The visit also included a number of workshops attended by both students and faculty members. One of the key workshops focused on designing wheelchairs using low-cost materials such as cardboard, where participants learned about the construction process and created prototype models—an ideal solution for crisis-affected or underserved regions.

Additionally, the delegation conducted a workshop on classifying foot problems and identifying appropriate treatment methods using assistive devices.

The visit concluded with a fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience between both parties, yielding valuable academic and social outcomes.

The Dean of the School, Prof. Ziad Hawamdeh, emphasized the importance of academic exchange between universities to share expertise across various fields, enhance the competencies of the department’s faculty members, and provide students with opportunities to further develop their practical skills.

It is worth noting that the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics is the only department among Jordanian universities that offers a Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
