Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics
is one of the newly established departments at the School of Rehabilitation
Sciences / The University of Jordan. The program started in the academic year
1999/2000 and was introduced to handle the shortage in qualified O& P
personnel in the MENA region.
The field of Prosthetics and
Orthotics is concerned with evaluating and designing prostheses for all levels
of amputation, whether congenital or acquired, and manufacturing orthotic
devices, for different age groups, in order to improve functions and perform
daily activities.
The BSc program offered by the
department aims to provide the required knowledge and skills to the students so
that the graduates can work in hospitals and rehabilitation centers to deal
professionally with different cases.
To date, the number of
graduates of the program is 250 students.
The department established
a strategic partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
aimed at developing department staff members and laboratory supervisors in
terms of developing practical skills as well as developing the study plan and
working to obtain international accreditation from the International Society of
Orthotics & Prosthetics.
