( Emergency care in athletic therapy)
Course Description :
This course aims to provide students with knowledge and practical skills to deal with emergency situations that may occur on field. This includes knowledge of physiologic recovery mechanisms, tissue repair and healing, physiologic response to acute trauma and injury, and activation of emergency action plan, undertaking onsite first aid interventions. Examples of practical skills include performing CPR and utilizing a bag-valve mask on an infant, child and adult. Moreover, utilizing an automated external defibrillator (AED) according to current accepted practice protocols. Students will be also trained to deal with other emergency scenarios such normalizing body temperature in situations of severe/life threatening heat or cold stress, controlling bleeding using universal precautions, management of anaphylactic shock, open and closed wounds, closed head trauma, seizures, acute asthma attack, thoracic, respiratory and internal abdominal injury or illness, diabetic coma, toxic drug overdose, and environmental illness.
